The programming language Cobol appeared 61 years ago. However, many banks, insurance companies, and public institutions still use COBOL to operate core transactional business processes such as unemployment benefit payments and ATMs. The problem is that, as the “age” suggests, it’s getting harder and harder to find people who can maintain mainframe-based COBOL applications. In fact, it is not easy to find computer science courses that teach COBOL.
